Our Mission & Vision
Justice For Water's objective is to stop Southern Water's unlicensed sewage dumping.

Our strategy is to bring legal action against Southern Water using consumer law.

We plan to use a class type legal action.

Our Vision: An English Water system designed and built for people and nature.

Customers Do Pay the Fines (CDPtF)
Our main tactic is to bring legal action against Southern Water, with our 'Customers Do Pay the Fines' campaign story. For your convenience, there is a brief overview of this document.

The core argument of the Customers Do Pay the Fines campaign is that Southern Water customers will ultimately end up paying the £90 million criminal fine levied by the Environment Agency (EA) in July 2021. This is despite explicit assurances to the contrary from the Southern Water's chairman, Keith Lough.
Although the fine is not paid by an immediate charge on the consumer's bills, it is paid by a structural, long-term increase in the cost of financing, recovered from all future customer bills.
In other words it is hidden behind a wall of regulatory financial engineering.

A legal case based on our campaign story is planned to prove this, working towards bringing justice for our water and for the consumers who pay for it.

Justified Payment Withdrawal
In response to Southern Water's (alleged) unlawful overcharging, JFW are arguing for Justified Payment Withdrawal (JPW). This is complementary to water bill boycotting rather than an alternative. JPW uses a single, specific and focused legal argument to justify non payment.
Several template letters are available to help you complain and justify withholding payment for bills.
These are available as part of a series of JFW Actions, which allow anyone to register disapproval (and anger) at the behaviour of Southern Water.
They are ‘zero risk’ template letters for simply complaining and requesting an explanation for poor service.

If you want to take things further you can combine your complaint with withdrawal of payment to form a Justified Payment Withdrawal.

Digital Actions
It's easy and low or zero risk for anyone to take ACTION against the water industry from your desk or phone.

From simply complaining or changing your payment method to Justified Payment Withdrawal, there is something that everyone can do.

Water Bill Boycotting
No campaign against English water companies would be complete without a mention of Water Bill Boycotting.

Justice For Water grew from someone who is still witholding payment from Southern Water and has not paid for wastewater services since October 2023.
